Proyek yang PortableApps adalah kompilasi dari freeware, bebas dan open source portabel perangkat lunak untuk Windows dengan download secara gratis dan perangkat lunak open source yang diselenggarakan oleh SourceForge.net di mana ia telah memiliki lebih dari 100 juta download aplikasi yang dikemas ulang untuk Portable Apps  (baik sebagai individu-download aplikasi, atau dikombinasikan bersama di PortableApps Suite).

Proyek ini dipimpin oleh pendiri John T. Haller dan termasuk sumbangan dari lebih dari 50 orang, termasuk pengembang, desainer dan penerjemah.

Situs dan proyek mulai dari versi portabel Mozilla Firefox pada bulan Maret 2004. John T. Haller then expanded the project to include Mozilla Thunderbird and OpenOffice.org . John T. Haller kemudian diperluas untuk mencakup proyek Mozilla Thunderbird dan OpenOffice.org. Soon the open source suite of programs outgrew Haller’s personal website and Haller moved it to a community site, PortableApps.com.

Tak lama kemudian open source program suite outgrew Haller situs pribadi dan Haller memindahkannya ke sebuah situs komunitas, PortableApps.com. The site currently hosts various projects created by forum members. Situs yang saat ini menjadi tuan rumah berbagai proyek yang dibuat oleh anggota forum. The site is also used for bug reporting and suggestions. Situs ini juga digunakan untuk bug pelaporan dan saran.
